greetings to all the lads and lassies on the board,

great to see kristen's back to playing at eddie's (probably the best listening room in the world (thanks carlsberg!)).
and everybody knows that all the *best* people were born in october. ha! :) big 3-0 looms large in my headlights.

so, umm, i finally got back to writing lyrics after a wee mini writer's block (they suck btw) and wondered if y'all would
like to give me some constructive criticism....

Hi Kristen! A friend from Atlanta once told me that if she saw me in an Atlanta bar shooting pool, she would confuse me for you.....what an amazing compliment. I have never seen you perform, but I am checking my calendar to see how possible it might be to fly to Atlanta for your December CD release at Eddie's Attic. I adore your music and listen to you constantly....at least one of your CD's is always in the car. I recently had a bonding moment with another Minnesotan who knew of you and adored you as well....we are hoping hoping hoping that you are planning a trip north for a show....we would be pleased as pie. Peace to you, and hope the move back to Hotlanta goes smoothly.

Hi Kristen!

We love you! hehe Ok, enough crazy fan stuff. But seriously, we adore the gift you share with everyone. What a blessing to have this music in our lives. I can count many occaisions where it was the perfect thing to help me see things more clearly. Thanks for that.

Kirsten (no, not Kristen...my friend Kirsten here in Minneapolis!) and I are buds and we are planning on coming down to see you when you have some shows posted. So look out for these crazy Minnesotans. We could use a break from the weather here around January...so be sure to have a few shows lined up for us. *laugh* Just kidding! :)

By the way...howdy hi to Lynn who just posted. If you want to form a Minneapolis-based Kristen fan club...let me know at DeanFlory@hotmail.com. Kristen and I would love to meet you and your other new friend for coffee and Kristen talk. :)

Kristen,
I have been searching high and low, to find you, so that I might be able to tell you, just how much I appreciate you're music! You have always been a driving force in my music, with you're meaningful voice, and undying love songs. Life would be empty, without the voice of you, Kristen Hall....You are the evolution of a new dawn, and I wanted to thank you, for getting me through all the good and bad times. Take care, and God bless you, Kristen. I look forward to seeing you in the Tampa bay area, of Fla. Don't be a stranger! Our local radio station, WMNF, plays your music all the time. The sales are good in this area, so keep 'em coming..........Kathy**

sunday early ringing phone
through depth of dream i surface
hurdles leaped to make it known
oceans apart i give you solace

tentative those first steps down
as friendship dissolves into more
scared of what is lost and found
equilibrium shaken to the core

inwardly wise
outward trusting as a child
running in a maze
we end up in the same place

and this, and this was never planned
put aside your guilt
and reach across the miles for my hand
i am, i am, i am overawed by
the power, the rush, the high

paris says you never forget that defining moment in love
oh it's far, far stronger than the pen, the fist and dove
candles buring breathe deep let the fragrance trigger memories
i am a blank page your brush strokes outlining me

your image remains before my eyes
burned in subconscious thought
arms outstretched to praise the skies
to push away what has been taught

the world shouts carpe diem (seize the day)
as i danced outside the flames
and the coward i have been
opens the curtain to sane

Unforgotten Melodies
%A9 by . Cowgyrl~

The rhythm goes on inside my heart, each note

finding its place close to my soul. I let my mind

drift back to a time when the words fell silently

and shadows were something beyond today.

The tune is hauntingly familiar for it is my strength,

my only refuge in the night. Sing your song for me,

sweet lady, let me live in the memory of your

words. Lately I feel the sadness from the notes

that fall upon my soul, only to remind me of the

songs we once knew. It's cold out tonight, and my

heart could use some warmth, so sing your song for

me, sweet lady.....for I've nowhere left to go.

Thank you Kristen Hall...your songs still bring me to my knees ~

Well...it's been a long time. I'm sorry about that, but sometimes life gets in the way. I think the last time I posted, I mentioned how I lost my mother in April. Well I lost my father in August. It's been a hard year, to say the least. But music has always been my refuge...and of course Kristen is a part of that. So thank you Kristen...for giving what you do and helping me through some of my darkest hours. It means more than anything I could post here.

That being said...I was shopping last night and I found Real Life Stuff on CD, which was exciting because it has that extra track that I was spazzing about before ("Island") and now it's all mine for the play and re-play. :)

So, uh...Kristen...when are you coming back North? I've -never- seen you live (it's a very very sad thing) and I want to (I'm sure I could spam on about how much that would mean...warning: when I do see you, I will probably cry.) *dorks* :)

Okay I'm gonna go for now, but barring anything else that will add to the tragedy of the year, I will try to post more regularly, and you are always free to email me if you are so inclined. *points up*

Love and Peace to you all...
Audra

First of all just want to apologise if I've upset anybody with my previous comment. Honestly, didn't mean to. Now, onto the message by Sue who listed her favourite Kristen Hall songs. I have to say I have so many, but what first comes to mind are the songs on the album "Be Careful What You Wish For". I bought this album down in London in Oxford Street's HMV store a few years ago, and have to say it still ranks as my fav. all time album. There are so many beautiful songs on there but the ones I would pick would be "Just So You Know", "Moment In A Day", "Nothing", "Open Arms", and "Let It Rain". You know, I keep saying on here how much I would love to hear Kristen sing these and other songs live, but probably realising I never will. Kristen, I will always live in hope. Thanks.

Guy Kaiser, tabmeister extraordinaire, has just sent the tabs for 'You Don't Know'. They're up on the tabs page - take a look, try 'em out, take 'em out for a test spin and let everyone know what you think. And if anyone has any alternate tablature they'd like to share, or just more tabs in general, please drop me a note.

Hi everyone! I've been reading this board since it started, but haven't posted much. However, I wanted to cast my vote for the top 3 Kristen songs! Although it's hard to choose just three, I would have to pick "Following My Compass", "Island", and "Mary".

In response to Audra, yes, 1999 has been a tough year. For me, it all started in January with the death of my grandfather, one of the greatest people I've ever known, and it just went downhill from there. My partner of 4 years and I separated a few months ago as well, and even though things are looking up for our relationship, (we'll be back together for good in no time!), '99 has really, really sucked! So Audra, I'm so sorry for the losses you've suffered this year. I, too, have found solace in Kristen's music; she has an incredible gift, doesn't she?

Kristen, you are amazingly talented. There is no songwriter I admire more.

Thanks for reading!

Everyone going to Eddie's Attic for the release party will be able to buy the new album, but what about the rest of us? Will it be available nationally through the big, corporate on-line cd sources? Or through Ladyslipper? Or do I have to call Eddie and ask him for a copy?

We wouldn't mind if you came to San Francisco, Kristen. I'm sure you could draw in a large, appreciative audience of me, my teammate, and all the folk-loving lesbians!

And to "hmmmm..." from about a month ago - My top three Kristen Hall songs would be:

3) Unskinny Bop (....oh, wait a minute, that would be a song by Poison, wouldn't it.....Maybe Kristen can start doing covers???)

I am anxious about getting my hands on your new CD, Kristen! I understand Daemon Records will have it but I don't think they have the arrangements finalized. Martine, what's the scoop?!

Just got back from a most memorable vacation in Australia (Brisbane area.) I turned my friends down there onto Kristen's music. We spent wonderful nights around a campfire playing and singing Million Years, Heaven Knows, Moment In A Day, Following My Compass, Howie, etc.

Kristen, I have decided...I WILL see you perform live at least once in my life! Since you haven't come to Austin, I'm going to have to drive up to Atlanta to catch a show.

Best Regards To All,

Sandra,

The scoop is this: Daemon will be distributing Kristen's new CD 'California Made Music' and are taking pre-orders now. The CD will cost $12, with $4.25 for priority s/h and will be shipped on either the 10th or the 13th. There are ten songs on CMM, written during Kristen's time in L.A. and it's a beautiful disc. If you've been to any of the recent shows in the Atlanta area, you'll have heard a few of these already.

Tiny plug: This site had its genesis as a fan site. It's since evolved from that and on the 11th, we'll be opening up the official site, located at www.kristenhall.com. Check it out then.

All the best,

Martine

I just pre-ordered the new CD and I can't wait!!! I will not be able to make it down for the CD release later this month....one of the major disadvantages of not living in Atlanta....but I do hope to make it down in the near future for a show! Hope you all have a great weekend! Peace, Lynn

HEY KRISTEN,

It has been 10 years since I first heard you on a tape I received from a friend. The last song on the tape had the following lyrics:

" I gave you a boat so you could sail around the world. I watched you drift away into the sun. I dreamed about you out there in those vast wide open spaces. I wondered if you missed me, and all our favorite places..."

Well the tape was of poor quality and not long for this world so I went shopping for the album. When I got home with Real Life Stuff the song wasn't on it. I have been looking for the song and singing what I remember for a couple of years now and I just got a computer so I thought I would drop you a line. Your songs have helped me to be a better friend and a happier person. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have recommended Real Life Stuff to friends in need. I would love to buy the album with the boat song but I don't know where to find it or which one it is! Please help and thanks.

I forgot to tell you I'm in Reno, NV. Since the early days i've gone from a homeless ski bum to sheltered and employed ... you were there the whole way. I will fly to see you soon. My company headquarters is in Atlanta so I am as happy as the rest to see you back! Bless you woman. You rock.

Pamela,

The song you refer to is 'Island' and can be found on the reissues of 'Real Life Stuff.' This disc is available through Daemon. Check out http://home.intranet.org/kristen_hall/rls.html for all of the lyrics.

hey ya'll! i am really looking forward to saturday night. playing at eddie's has to be one of my favorite things. martine and i have begun to set up kristenhall.com, so you can look for that real soon. i bought a didital camera so we can show you lots of things like my new studio, dog, haircut, etc. eventually we'll be adding videos, interviews, downloads of music and songbooks. it will be FANtastic. eventually we'll add an online store with cd's, posters, t-shirts, and links to other artists i've worked with. by now you've discovered that daemon records is going to be selling "California Made Music" so, until we're up and running, you can buy cd's there. i'll be anxious for you to hear "CMM". i feel it's the best collection of songs i've recorded by far. i'll check back in a couple weeks to see what you think. until then, be safe.... i'll see ya :) -kristen

Just want to say how much I'm looking forward to hearing Kristen's new record and hope I'll be able to order it from over here. I'm also really looking forward to the new site as this is the only way I can hear all what Kristen is up to and share all the news and info. You chaps are so lucky to be able to go and see her play live and maybe get the chance to have a chat with her. I don't think we'll ever see her in this country again. Still, I know for sure I'll always be here playing her music and wishing her well.

Kristen, one thing, how will you be spending your Christmas this year?

Cheers.

Annie

hello there gang,

so, ummm, martine kindly asked me to provide a review from saturday, so buckle in and i will be your reviewer for this evening.....

so, first things first, i have to say how much i enjoy the new cd. great job kristen! :)

onto the show...kristen admitted to being nervous again but it didn't show in her performance. she played a lot of the new songs first, and had her california friends mark and judith playing and singing on a couple of them. very cool to hear them "stripped down" in comparison to what's on the cd. then she did oldies - peaches, let it rain, *island*, following my compass, the song about michael bowers (ga politician, it was hilarious)....ummm, that's all i can remember off the top of my head. she overran the first set by 20 minutes. :o oh yeah and she finished with the rollerskate song....great singalong by the audience! and (it's all coming back to me now) a brand new song called tumbleweed that she wrote while in las vegas w/ the ig.

second show. mark and judith opened and did a fabulous job. judith has an amazing voice, mark plays guitar like a god (and does great backup vox). i have to apologise to them for the noisy people in the back who would not shutup (grrrrrr pet peeve). if anybody on this list lives in atlanta, judith is opening for scout on wednesday at eddie's, i'd recommend checking them out if you get a chance. back to kristen.....

more new stuff with judith and mark again. oldies? let it rain, howie (sans eddie, his mom was having heart surgery, so everybody please keep mrs. owens in your thoughts and prayers). i love howie cause of the scotland references. :) trouble times, wish i may(? i think), i gave everything. oh and a soooo funny song about her dog to the tune of freefalling by tom petty called throwballing. <bg> "she's a good dog".

phew!

a great evening of music. :) kristen, i had such a fun time, please play again soon. :)

toodle-pip,

gail (the scottish one)

Thanks for the show review up there! I'll make it to a KH show one day if it's the last thing I do!!!!!

Just got my CMM cd in the mail yesterday. Played it all night long! I totally love that first track, Nothing Matters: "...nothing matters til someone matters more than you." That line is so cool! I'm enjoying the cd thoroughly.

Thanks for your music...it's great to hear your voice again on new material, Kristen!

Much Love,

i was totally amazed throughout the evening at eddie's...though i have been a fan of kristens
for several years, i had never heard her play live. it was a most amazing time. the clarity of
her voice, the rhythm, the was kristen worked with judith and marc was artful. on the front row
by the christmas tree i was on the edge of my chair the entire evening. i found kristen to be a
very warm, giving woman.....much as i had anticipated.

kristen, thanks for the oddly printed cd you gave me after the show....hope i was not too
obnoxious...i had WAY too many Coronas (if obnoxious..please forgive)...by the way....you've
got the address and number....i'll cook just let me know what you like.

i'm also trying to connect up with the woman in the back selling cd's for kristen. you
wanted my indigio girls button up henley...we need to hook up....my email is chille37@aol.com....

how come nobody's posted in three months? now that we have our most wonderful kristen hall
back home where she belongs (okay, so that's *my* opinion), everybody ought to be raving
about her recent shows at eddie's, which were both fabulous. of course, maybe there are millions
of posts, and i just can't see them for some reason...that would be more typical.

so, has anyone had any trouble playing kh's new cd? i have a pretty old cd player, and it just
coughs and hiccups and repeats. i tried friends' cds, and they did the same thing. am i going
to have to get a whole new stereo just to listen to this new cd???

The One in the music box at Eddie's Attic is also not playing well (i checked this weekend). I am sure she'll get the whole thing straight with the recording company and get some $$$ back or something...

I don't know if she *could* get some $$'s back people..I mean, it 'is' an independant release...didn't *she* do everything ? If not, she'd have plenty of witnesses to call in court...what day suits everyone ? (anyone know a judge ?)..At least you're all buying it, and everyone likes it..even the "edited" versions..everyone should skip around and sing to the cd, that way, you wont know the difference when the CD skips !!...or you could always just send her a cheque..the "payback for Kristen" fund...so she can re-record it (just kidding guys...just kidding...)

I don't know if this is helpful, but my older NAD CD player refuses to read some newly made discs but will read a CD-R made from the disc. I haven't gotten my CMM yet to try it. But since I believe strongly in supporting independents, I suggest you keep buying them until you find one that works :)

I hadn't listened to Kristen in a long time (I can no longer sing her an octave down, and I never could sing in the right octave). But I saw someone do "Let It Rain" at an open mic last night, and I remembered how much I loved it, so I popped Fact & Fiction into the CD player and had a blast!

hey everyone:) i'm so sorry that some of you are having problems with the new cd. i kinda think that it has to do with technology and that these cd's are fine in a current player with 16bit + format. (older cd players are not having an easy go of it). however, i'm enthusiastic about making it all good. so, please be patient while i get it sorted out. i want everyone to be happy. if you live in the atlanta area and need to exchange cd's... i will leave some at eddie's attic that you can exchange for new ones. if it still skips after that, you may want a refund. i am in the process of dealing with the manufacturer.... i'll keep you posted. all that aside, i'm SO happy that you're enjoying what you hear. if my production skills are pleasing to the ear, i will push forward and spring new stuff on you all the time. i hope the holidays have treated you kindly and that the new year finds us all happy and prosperous. mucho amore' kristen :) ps. martine, you rock!

Just wanted to ask if anyone can tell me where to buy the new Kristen Hall CD. I presume I can order it from Daemon records tho my computer keeps crashing out everytime I reach the site, or any site at the moment. I love Kristen's music and just want to get hold of her latest CD as soon as possible. Also, I've never ordered a CD via the internet as I'm a bit dubious about giving my credit card details. Can anyone recommend anything to me? Or maybe I'll just give Daemon a ring after the Xmas holidays and order it via the phone.
Anyway, hope everyone had a great Christmas, and you too Kristen, and wish all you chaps the most happiest and healthiest of New Year's. And Kristen, how about a trip over to England in the New Year?

Hey Annie, you can order from Daemon through the mail, if you go to a bank and get a 'draft' for the amount in US dollars, or use your credit card..you just go to the site, when you can, print out the order form, and away you go. If you can't get to the site, just let 'em know clearly what you want. They got CMM for 12 bucks, Thumbprint for 12, RLS cd's for 12, tapes for 7, and overseas post is 11 bucks extra. send it to po box 1207, Decatur, GA 30031. USA.

Thanks April, I've always gone to the bank previously to order my CD's from Daemon Records. Wonder if the CD will be in any record stores as I'm off down to London next week. Anyway, thanks for your help mate.
Was also wondering what people on this site are listening to other than Kristen. Would be interested to know others musical tastes. And Kristen, who are you listening to these days, any CDs and singers you can recommend?

Am also interested in hearing from other people on this site, just for a chin wag now and again. If you want to have a chat with someone from England my e mail is at the top.
